Dump Truck
Dump trucks are used mostly in construction and mining sites to haul away earth and dirt from these sites. They are mostly heavy-duty trucks that can carry several tons of load on rough mountain roads or unpaved construction roads. Dump trucks are considered as heavy equipment and dump truck drivers are often referred to as “vocational drivers”. This simply means that driving a dump truck requires an occupational skill for which a person is best suited for. Training to become a dump truck driver takes some time to be fully qualified as such because these trucks are difficult to manipulate than ordinary trucks.
Dump trucks are ideal for transporting any loose material such as such as sand, gravel, dirt, mine excavations and other similar items because these can be put in a box attached to the trailer and then tipped over by using a winch. These are called as “tippers” or tipper lorry in Ireland and the U.K. Virtually all of today’s dump trucks are operated by a hydraulics system. Each truck is designed to perform a specific job based on its configuration. There are also articulated dump trucks which are different from semi-trailer trucks because the cab itself is not separable. Dump trucks are dangerous to operate especially when tilting their cargo to unload them.
